Teeter Hang Ups EZ Up Inversion System with Inversion Rack and Gravity Boots Review

Teeter Hang Ups EZ Up Inversion System with Inversion Rack and Gravity Boots

For many years I have been suffering from lower back pain as well as some occasional neck pain. Being a long-time distance runner this seems to come with the territory. Having visited a Chiropractor over the years, I noticed that I would require 'adjustments' more and more often to feel put together. After speaking to a personal trainer at the gym, I got the idea about 'gravity boots' and thus started doing some research. This is how I stumbled upon the Hang Ups EZ Up system. Let me point out a couple of things before you buy this system:
1) You MUST have a relatively strong core in order to use this system and CANNOT weigh more than 250 lbs.
2) The brackets used for the inversion bar require being ATTACHED BY SCREWS to the outside of a door frame -- i.e. The brackets are visible and permanent.
3) The first couple of times you use this, you WILL fumble trying to get up into an inversion position.
All of these things being said, once you get this system down, YOU WILL BE HOOKED!!! The sensation of inversion is so relaxing and relieving that it is almost euphoric. You can literally feel your spine decompress. AHHHH!!! After a couple of weeks of occasional use (every other day for 4-5 minutes) my back pain is all but gone. My neck is noticebly looser as well. For me this was truly money well spent. One last word of warning: If you are not athletic, perhaps you should stick to an inversion table as just the action of getting into the inversion position is like a heavy-duty pull up.

Any standard wooded doorframe can be your center for inversion with Teeter's EZ-Up Inversion System, which comes complete with our Inversion Rack and Gravity Boots.Without interfering with the normal use of the door, quick-disconnect locking brackets secure to the doorframe and allow the Inversion Rack to be installed in just seconds. The Gravity Boots wrap comfortably around each ankle, securing with adjustable, self-locking ratchet buckles.Easy-reach handles and comfortable foam handgrips allow for mounting and dismounting with ease. The double-bar system enables you to hang freely out and away from the frame -- allowing for maximum mobilization during your inverted workout! The Teeter Inversion Rack also serves as an excellent chin up bar.The chin portion of the bar is outside and higher than the doorframe, allowing the user more extension than a traditional doorway chin-up bar.

Teeter Hang Ups Gravity Boots Review

Teeter Hang Ups Gravity Boots

I tried a couple of inversion tables but found that they weren't very comfortable on my ankles. Note: It is important to only buckle these gravity boots as loosely as you can without slipping out of them for maximum comfort (transfers pressure off achiles tendon and onto heal bone.) You can use these gravity boots with some inversion tables, but If you have the strength/coordination you may find that hanging from a bar (teeters brand) allows for more options (more hip/body movement.) Scientific studies have shown that traction is of questionable benefit, so I never bothered to persue inversion as the mechanism at play is obviously traction. However, recently, after many many years of back pain, I've started a program of inversion. I find that out of all the things I have tried (of which there are a great many), the inversion is probably the most beneficial. It hasn't cured me by any means, but it has provided some improvement. I think one thing to stress is that it is not sufficient to simply invert and lay still. Rather, it is probably much more beneficial to alternately contract the abdominals in a way that shortens your spinal length by aprox an inch or two. As if you are trying to pull your belly button up into your pelvis. or pelvic bone down into your belly button, perhaps? Do this every five or ten seconds. Not only will this strengthen your abs, but it will also fatiuge your stabalizing muscels so as to more fully stretch the spine (the abs, if not fatiuged, probably limit the stretch, as they are trying to protect the spine and hold it in place.) Also, by contracting and relexing the abs, you are likely expanding and contracting the disc space, moving fluid around the connective tissue (which has no real blood vessels of thier own.) Lastly, by doing these contractions, you may in effect be loading and unloading the spinal ligaments, which might strengthen them the way a bicep is strengthened by contracting and relaxing through bicep curls. There are many people, myself included, who believe that weak ligaments are the primary culprit in many lower back problems (even if bad discs are present....ie, many people have bad discs without problems, as shown by MRI studies.) In my case I believe it is my Sacroiliac joint ligament (si joint dysfunction.) I'm quite convinced that my improvments are not placebo in origin, as I was quite pessimistic about trying this (due to studies on traction that had me convinced this was fairly futile.) In addition to the abdominal contractions, I'd also reccomend do full inverted situps, hula type hip rotations while inverted, try to stretch the front of your hips (flexors) while inverted, and also twisting and side bending motion. It is probable that all this motion and stretching while inverted ads flexibility and elasticity to the connective tissue as well as moves fluid around. I invert twice a day for ten minutes each time.

Lumbar Extender Back Stretcher Review

Lumbar Extender Back Stretcher
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've tried similar fixed-height extenders made from dense foam, as well as inversion and traction devices, and this one has them all beat. The unit is definitely very portable, and having 3 levels of adjustment is very nice. Though it does take a bit of strength to set it in the highest position, it's not a major issue. The instructions are thorough and include multiple variants for different levels of stretch. The effectiveness of spending 5-10 minutes a day relaxing on this is amazing, and I am completely free from back pain. This is definitely my favorite new toy, and considering it costs less than 2 trips to the chiropractor, it's a great investment.
Update, May 6, 2010
I was reviewing my reviews this evening, and yes, this is still one of my favorite possessions. I don't need to use it much these days, but I still have it and it could be sold "as new", not that I would. I really wish more products were constructed with this level of excellence and durability. Thank you to the team behind this product.

Body Power ABI1600 Ab and Back Machine Review

Body Power ABI1600 Ab and Back Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I spent alot of time researching & reading reviews on different types of Inversion Tables, including the "Teeter". For the money I saved and the quality of the product, I can't say enough positive things about the Body Power AB & Back machine! It does exactly what it says it will do. The stretch relieves all that compression, and I use it faithfully every day for 10 minutes. My husband was very impressed by the workmanship that went into the product, and the easy of assembly. I have chronic lower back pain, and I love to walk every day, but my back just ain't what it used to be, so as soon as I make it back in from my 2-1/2 mile hike, I head right for the Inversion Table. It is relaxing and gives me total and immediate relief. I am amazed! I weigh 160 lbs., and my ankles are quite comfortable in the cushioned restraints. The Table itself gives support & comfort, as well. It's so easy to manuever, and just as easy to fold in half for compact wall storage.
I have not used the AB's part as much, because I am focusing on my lower back and don't want to put any strain on my back, than is necessary right now. But I will say that I love it so much, I told my Daughter about it, because she is suffering from a ruptured disc, and her Worker's Comp. Doctor was very enthusiatic about her use of this machine, so I ordered her one as well. She is very glad I did!

Teeter Hang Ups EP-550 Inversion Therapy Table Review

Teeter Hang Ups EP-550 Inversion Therapy Table
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was somewhat skeptical when I ordered this board whether it would help my back or not. I am periodically bothered by back problems that are either sciatica or something closely resembling it. When it hits it has always taken at least six weeks of physical inactivity and stretching to relieve the pain, and the ache would linger for months. When I felt the latest bout of this condition begin, I ordered this board. I can truthfully say that after using the board for one week, five minutes a day, the pain and any sign of the condition had disappeared. I live alone so I do not fully invert, but the last setting using the safety harness was enough to provide me relief. I only use it two or three times a week now, but have not had a recurrence of the back problem in the four months since buying the board. The one time relief was enough to justify buying the board, and any future aid in relieving or preventing the sciatica will be gravy for me. I am beginning to believe that periodic use may hopefully prevent the condition from coming back. I bought the Teeter board because I am 64 years old and weigh 250 lbs. I feel very secure on this board and if I had someone around when I was using it I would have no hesitation in going fully inverted. The sensation when you first use the board takes some getting used to, but once you develop trust in the board that feeling goes away.

Teeter Hang Ups EZ Up Inversion Rack Review

I wanted one of these for a long time. I just didn't know it. I always loved the Hangup Boots, but never bought them because I didn't want the big inversion table. Then I woke up one morning with a drive to get the boots and just find something (a jungle gym perhaps) to hang from. And then I saw this rack that hangs in your door. It was perfect! It installed easily in my studio doorway. It can be used for pullups or just something to stretch out with everytime I walk in and out of the room. Our daughter is constantly climbing on it and inadvertantly getting great exersise. I did get the inversion boots as well and try to find ten minutes a day to hang upside down. It gets blood to the brain and takes pressure off the spine. You can get a totally different work out being inverted. I highly recommend this to everyone, but especially fellow yogis. Yoga is great for working out back problems and this rack (paired with the Hangup boots) really helps with strengthening and lengthening the back. Cobra pose without a floor!
I am glad I didn't hessitate in getting this. I use it everyday.

The Teeter Hang Ups EZ-Up inversion rack offers a full body stretch and is a great tool for inverted exercises (like crunches, sit-ups and squats). Full range inverted sit-ups become ten times tougher than horizontal sit-ups--with minimal load on the back. It installs to the top of a door frame, but does not interfere with the function of the door, and takes up no floor space--ideal for cramped living spaces.
The EZ-Up inversion rack is compatible with optional Teeter Hang Ups Gravity Boots. Designed for the fit and flexible user, it offers a safe and convenient method of full inversion. The dual bar system is designed for easier mounting and dismounting, and allows you to hang free from the door frame for maximum range of motion.
Feature Detail:
Sturdy materials assembled with bolts (no welds)
Adjustable for doorways 28" to 36"
Locking brackets are mounted with screws in the door frame for security. Locking pieces snap over the rack to keep it in place, but can be unlocked to remove the rack from the door frame. In place, the rack will not interfere with the operation of the door.
Door savers help protect the door frame from damage.
Easy-to-reach handles provide help to the user for moving into and out of the inverted position.
Double-bar system places the user out and above the door frame for extra height and full range of movement. You don't have to bend completely in half to mount and dismount the rack.
High-quality, scratch-resistant powder-coating
Foam hand grips make mounting and dismounting more comfortable, and help prevent calluses and slippery hands when performing chin-ups.
Weight capacity: 250 pounds

Note about installation: The EZ-Up inversion rack must be installed in a solid wood door frame constructed according to national building code standards.

Ironman ATIS 1000 AB Training System Inversion Therapy Table Review

Ironman ATIS 1000 AB Training System Inversion Therapy Table
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just recently purchased the Ironman Inversion System - nice, very nice!
This review is in five parts:
1.About the inversion system
2.Assembling the Ironman Inversion System
3.Assembly Steps that deserve comment
4.Broken or missing parts
5.Health Warnings (added because I didn't see this anywhere until I read the manual).
About the inversion system
This is not my first inversion system; I have a Stamina Inversion Therapy Table where we spend our summers. I purchased that unit from Amazon in May 2007. If that model had been available, I would have just reordered it. Since that unit is no longer available, I had to search out a new inversion system.
The Ironman is better than the Stamina in several ways. Number one is the capability of locking the bed at desired angles.
1.) I like this when I'm in the inverted position because you can move your arms without the inversion system moving safely but annoyingly at the pivot. Also, because of my back problems at times when my back was really hurting I would lay on the floor with a pillow under my head. I thought I would try the Ironman locked in the horizontal position and by golly it works! I put my feet into the heel locks just as a safety precaution. Then I rotated the bed to the horizontal position and locked it. It is more comfortable than the floor but stiff enough that it works. I have also tilted it just beyond horizontal when my back is hurting. It feels good but I still have not decided how long to stay in that position.
2.) The foot holder is a lot more comfortable than my Stamina. It is mounted so that the orientation and position of what they call the "Heel Holder" is just right.
There are some minuses.
I like the head rest but this one is not adjustable. Ironman should fix this. I removed one bolt and rotated the headrest to an ideal position for me.
The Ironman folds up but it is big and heavy. If you have to put it away this inversion system probably isn't the unit for you.

Assembling the Ironman Inversion System
The Ironman Inversion System comes in a big box and it is heavy. The UPS guy brought it into my home and put it in the room where I wanted to set the unit up. I am an engineer and when I opened the box it scared me and I am fearless. I got my electronic camera and took several pictures of the opened box and even marked all the Styrofoam blocks in case I had a problem with the unit. As it worked out, I didn't have anything to fear. Every piece was wrapped. The screw, bolts, nuts and washers came mounted on one piece of cardboard held in place by shrink wrap plastic. Where possible they made sets by putting the nut and the washers on the bolts. Also on that board were the tools you need to put the unit together.
The part I was most concerned with - mounting the bed to the frame - turned out to be quite easy because it was designed for assembly by one person.
Regarding assembly; allow two hours. You have to take all of the parts out of the box before you find the manual at the bottom of box. When I looked at the manual I was comfortable everything would go together. The front and rear leg assemblies including the pivots were already together. I had to add the bed headrest, the boom that mounts the heel holders; these kinds of parts. Assembly is not a cake walk but if you follow the directions and are comfortable with a wrench in your hand, you should be able to assemble this unit.
Lay out the bolts in an area convenient to where you will be assembling the unit. Organize the bolts in the same relationship as the picture on Page 6 of the Manual. Do not disassemble the nut and the washer. They will be the right parts in the right quantity for each assembly position.
You can assemble the unit using just their tools. Although these are metric size nuts and bolts, the following are my tools that I used for assembly:
A 1/2 in. and 5/8 in. open end wrench
A Phillips screwdriver with a #1 and a #3 bit
A 10mm socket (3/8 in will work)
Assembly Steps that deserve comment
Step 1, Putting on the four feet - The directions do not refer to the F and the B decals on the feet. Put the F feet on the front and the B feet on the back.
Step 3, Place the bed into the frame - just as the picture shows. Insert the two #43 bolts with one washer on each side as shown in the instructions. Tighten lock nuts finger tight (they will just start). You will have to wiggle the bed to get the holes to line up. Don't worry; they have plenty of play. Then insert the two #44 bolts with a washer on each side as per the directions and put the nylon nut on finger tight. This way you will have everything loosely assembled before you tighten anything down. Tighten the #44 nuts and bolts a little at a time alternating between the left and right bolt. Then tighten the #43 bolts in the same way.
Step 7, the instructions have an error. The washer is shown on the nylon nut side but it should be on the bolt head side. The nylon nut side has a very nice hex retainer for the nut built in. Position the lock nut in the retainer then tighten the bolt.
Step 8, Screw #80 - fasten snug and back off about ? turn.
Broken or missing parts
One little plastic part was chipped. No big deal; everything would work but thought I should get a replacement. How easy this was! I called the phone number shown on the manual; pushed the button for service and my call was taken by a human being. He started to ask for the order number but when he knew it was ordered from Amazon he asked for my zip code and was able to pull up my record. He told me I would receive the replacement part by mail. Note: if I have a problem I will amend this report.

Whether you want to reduce back stress or fatigue, stimulate your blood circulation, or work your abs, the Ironman ATIS 1000 inversion table makes a great household accessory. The inversion table contributes to your body's overall health by optimizing lumbar traction, thereby relieving pressure on your vertebrae discs and ligaments. And when your back starts to relax, the rest of your body follows. The table can also help with such areas as increasing body flexibility for improved athletic performance, reducing the effects of aging due to gravity, and relieving lower backaches due to sitting or standing.
However, the ATIS 1000 differs from other inversion tables in a couple of crucial ways. First, by virtue of its ab and core training system, the table isolates the abdominals far more effectively than bench training, letting you build and strengthen your abs daily with just a few minutes of work. And second, the table offers 10 different inversion locking angles, letting you find the perfect position for your body type and symptoms.

The ATIS 1000 is outfitted with a durable oval tubing steel frame and a heavy nylon backrest with a memory foam vinyl pillow. The backrest is tough yet durable, while the pillow provides ample head support. More importantly, the inversion system is a breeze to use: once you rest your body against the nylon backrest and slip your feet into the ergonomically molded ankle cushions, simply reach your arms over your head. As your arms go up, your body gradually inverts to the preset angle. The only inputs are your energy and gravity itself.

Users will also appreciate the tough rubber non-skid floor stabilizers, which keep the table stable while you invert, and the extra-long safety handles, which provide an easy return to an upright position. Other details include a height-adjustable frame up to 6 feet 6 inches; support for up to 300 pounds; vinyl safety side covers to protect hands and fingers; a scratch-resistant powder-coated finish; inverted, foam-dipped hand grips that provide maximum stretching while inverted; and a side holder for cell phones, eyeglasses, wallets, coins, watches, and other small items. The ATIS 1000, which folds into a compact footprint for easy storage, measures 26 by 62 by 49 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 76 pounds.

Teeter Hang Ups EP-550 Sport Inversion Therapy Table Review

Teeter Hang Ups EP-550 Sport Inversion Therapy Table
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Why I chose EP-550 Sport:
Purchased this item on Oct.6,08. Chose this model, because of a positive reputation and the easy storage function, though it was a bit more expensive than other brands. In addition, this model is supposed to have a very comfortable ankle clasp. Sport version even includes the gravity boots. So, I decided to purchase EP-550 Sport instead of regular EP-550.
The First Day:
The assembly is not hard, but the whole package is quite ponderous. Once assembled, the inversion table needs some practice, adjusting the height and weight distribution, when one first uses it. This will take a while to get used to it. Unlike some other models, this table uses a seesaw mechanism, which means there is no locking into 30, 60 or 90 degree angle. The whole movement depends on balancing weight between one's head vs. his feet by swaying his arm either toward his head or toward his knee, once the balance has been established. Make sure to view the DVD that comes with the kit.
Pros:
Gravity boots are quite helpful, and I love how I can oscillate.
Cons:
Cam Locks arrived completely broken on both sides. When I called the customer service, they knew exactly what was broken, even before I mention the specific location. Obviously, there is a proven packaging problem.
If you are less than 100 lb, you might have a difficult time going into full inversion, since there is a lot of weight at the bottom. Using the gravity boots helps a bit.
Because the table is bottom heavy, it does not fold like a video. I find that, even when I shorten the table to the maximum storage mode, the table still sways into the horizontal angle, which makes it difficult to store without scratching the wall.
Traction handle is a rip off. Personally, I do not find them useful at all. Besides, they are supposed to be worth $30?!
Conclusion:
I recommend buying the regular EP-550 and the gravity boots kit separately and save money for Traction handle. If you really want to try the traction handle, just buy them separately. Buying EP-550 Sport model does not give you any discount for buying the whole package. EP-550 Sport should be around $350, when EP-550 is $299.
