Red XL Abdominal Exerciser Review

My 125# wife used the thing for no more than 10 minutes before the swivel broke on the bottom. I thought no problem with the warranty. I called and called and finally got put on hold for over an hour. Then when it went thru they were now closed and please call back. I tried a couple more days and never got thru. I have since decided to redesign the broken part and try it again. I might as well. The rest of the parts look pretty sturdy but the most loaded part is cheap plastic. I would never recommend this item to anyone in its current form. They will not be around very long with the quality of this product.

Sunpentown Giddyup Core Exerciser Review

I've only gotten this recently and cannot give a very thorough review yet, but since there are so few I thought it might be useful to say what I could. I got this because I have problems with lumbar stenosis and my doctor says I need to strengthen my core muscles. Riding is very good for core development, but the jarring is hard on the spine and of course there are some dangers. This machine provides exercise that seems pretty much like riding but without the jarring and without the danger -- albeit with less fun. I got the two-motor version that does a rocking motion and/or figure-eight motion, separately or in combination. The range of adjustmnent in speed seems adequate. There is also a simple program mode that I have not yet tried. There seems little doubt that I am getting core development from using it and have not experienced any pain. I feel pretty sure that aerobic benefit is very slgight at best. If you want more exercise for your laterals, they suggest sitting with both legs off one side so it rocks you side to side. The big question for me is where to put my feet when riding astride. They suggest holding them clear of the floor with knees bent, which is pretty tiring. Resting them on the floor (which is feasible as long as you are not especially short-legged) somewhat defeats the purpose of the exercise. There is no place to attach stirrup leathers. I am thinking I will connect a pair of stirrup leathers (the narrow English style) end-to-end and hang them across the saddle at the front, with a stirrup iron on each side.

Sunpentown International introduces the revolutionary exercise equipment - the Giddyup! Core Exerciser. This equipment simulates the actions of horseback riding with its single motions: a horizontal 8 motion. As the equipment goes through its motions, the rider is constantly thrown off-balance. This requires the riders muscles to involuntarily contract and relax in an attempt to re-balance and stay upright. This reflex action, known as counter-balance exercise, reaches the deep postural muscles of the pelvis and muscles of the thighs, quadriceps, hamstrings and glutei. The most appealing aspect of this Counter-Balance motion is that the user is exercising without really doing anything, as there is no exertion from the user.

OSIM iGallop Core and Abs Exerciser Review

OSIM iGallop Core and Abs Exerciser

Fellow horseback riders, you'll want to own this fun machine!! After reading the reviews here on Amazon, I went to Brookstone to try one of these before buying. Not only did I come home with one, but so did my riding buddy. (They were on sale at considerably less than half the retail price of $600.)
It has 3 speeds of the same side-to-side/circular motion, plus a 4th setting that randomly goes through the 3 speeds. In all cases, the motion approximates the 4-beat, lateral gait of a horse who's walking or racking.
Speed One is like riding a large horse who has a very clunky walk. Speed Two speeds up and smooths out a bit. It's like riding a gaited horse who's not smooth enough to want to buy. Speed Three speeds up again and smooths out even more. Fold your arms and hold them up in front of your chest, keep your shoulders steady, absorb the motion in your hips, and you'll feel like you're racking down the road on a decent horse at a good clip.
I've had all sorts of exercise machines over the years, but nothing has ever been as fun as this. It seems effortless to ride, and yet, both my riding buddy and I were surprised (and delighted) to feel some stiffness in all sorts of muscles. It's also strengthening my back which was injured in a horse wreck years ago.
The DVD that comes with it shows many additional exercises that you can do while balancing on this thing (if you're young and agile!), but I'm just having fun horsebackin' in front of the TV!
UPDATE: I've had my iGallop more than 3 months now and I still love it. I ride a minimum of 30 minutes every day, and an hour whenever possible (this is easy to time as the machine automatically runs for only 15 minutes - to continue, just hit the start button again). I've lost more than 5 pounds and an inch from my waist and hips. I credit this largely to the iGallop since I haven't changed anything else in my diet or exercise program.
2nd UPDATE ALMOST A YEAR LATER: I still love this machine, but am now on my second one thanks to my having purchased an extended warranty (doubling the original 12 months to 24). Six weeks shy of my one-year purchase date, my iGallop suddenly made noise, smelled of smoldering plastic and flopped loosely (and, no, I'm petite, so my weight didn't wreck it [grin]). I took it to Brookstone and they were wonderful about replacing it on the spot, leaving me with 13 months to go on the same warranty should I need yet another replacement(s). Soooo, moral of the story is; if you're offered an extended warranty, you may want to consider it.

The OSIM iGallop is the revolutionary exerciser that can help you shape and tone your tummy, hips, seat and thighs. The secret is in its zero-impact, tri-axial riding action. Your body automatically responds to its multidirectional movement, and this balancing engages certain muscle groups and may help improve coordination and posture.
