ACCUSPLIT AE120XL Pedometer, Steps Only Review

ACCUSPLIT AE120XL Pedometer, Steps Only
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
ACCUSPLIT AE120XL Pedometer, Steps Only
This pedometer comes complete with a lithium battery installed; there's nothing else to buy. The battery should last at least 5 years.
- The only "control" is the reset button. Press this and the counter goes to zero; which is what I do every morning.
- It counts every step you walk or jog, from 1 to 99999, then starts over. That's enough capacity for about 50 miles!
- The built-in clip holds the unit tightly to a belt or waistband. The attached 6" leash has two additional clips to attach to your clothing. These are to protect the unit from hitting the floor in case it slips off your belt. I wear the pedometer every day and it's stayed on my belt.
- The instructions explain where to position it on your waist, to get the best accuracy. I've found it to register too low occasionally by up to 4%. I.e., check the reading, walk 100 steps and check the reading again - and it sometimes registers as low as 96 steps. Many times though, it's dead on. However, for me, it's about 90% accurate going up and down stairs. It may be different for you, depending on the jolt of your steps and other factors.
- The unit only registers steps when it's vertical; i.e., with the cover closed. This is good, because the cover protects the display from damage. To see your "progress", unsnap the cover and look down at the count. The liquid crystal display digits are 1/2" high, so they are easy to read. There is no light for nighttime use, but that would quickly drain the battery. It has an internal pendulum that senses the motion of stepping or jogging.
- Maybe it's only me, but this thing provides an incentive to walk more, by letting me know how many steps I've taken.
- Accusplit provides a "5-year no proof-of-purchase warranty". How they would know it's been more than 5 years is a mystery without needing a receipt, and there's no serial number or manufacture date on the unit. In any case, if it needs repair, instructions on the unit itself tell you where to send it, and say to include your return address and phone number (no money). Can't beat that!
- To calculate the distance you've walked, multiply the steps taken times your average stride. E.g., my stride is 33" when walking briskly outside, so for every 1000 steps, that's just over 1/2 mile. 10,000 steps (times 33") is just over 5 miles. 99,999 steps, the counter's capacity, would equate to just over 50 miles, equivalent to 2 olympic marathons. This pedometer works well, is simple to use, reasonably accurate, unobtrusive, has a terrific warranty, and inspires me to walk more. At the price, it's also a bargain.

ACCUSPLIT Eagle AE1640M4 Step and Distance Pedometer Review

ACCUSPLIT Eagle AE1640M4 Step and Distance Pedometer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
this is a simple pedometer (my first ever). the clip is VERY secure and that is the main reason I bought it. I had read reviews for other pedometers and they apparently come off easily. This one also comes with a safety cord, but the description doesn't mention that. So far it has been accurate for me. I can count the steps (i.e. 20) and look down and sure enough it has registered 20 steps. I really don't think the accuracy was my main criteria though. I generally wanted to know about how many steps I was taking at work and on my evening walks in the neighborhood. It is perfect for that. I try to do 10,000 steps a day and this is an incentive. The display has your total steps for the day, and your total steps for the period (i.e. for the month). You can reset that as needed (i.e. if you wanted to monitor steps for the week). I REALLY like the fact that this pedometer has your miles walked. Lots of cheaper pedometers don't do that! You can change it to kilometers if you don't use miles. you need to set it up the first time you use it with your height and weight or it won't be accurate. It comes with instructions and an 800 number to call. Because its specific to your height and weight, I don't think you could easily share it with someone unless they were basically your same size. This also has a flip down cover so you can't accidentally hit the reset button. If you look down at suppertime and you've only taken 4,000 steps then you know you surely must take an evening walk that day! It's also handy to measure how long your walk is in miles.

Sportline Walking Advantage 345 Calorie Pedometer

it records steps pretty accurately; it wasn't at all durable though. within 3 weeks of daily use the clip/spring mechanism had "popped" on one side and broke. I also had MANY problems with it resetting during the day and with the stride length being reset (?). I am assuming that after such a short use that the batteries are alrady low. it also recorded movements (such as using restroom) as steps. I liked this one because I thought that the larger clip would hold to waistbands better - but this wasn't really the case. one that i got much cheaper was more accurate and durable overall.

I LOVE this pedometer! Had two cheaper ones before I purchased this one and threw them both out. This pedometer is sturdy and accurate. It keeps track of the last seven days of activity, calories, moderate steps. It even knows the date and time, and resets itself automatically every day. It has yet to fall off like the cheaper brands. For the money, I'd highly recommend this one.

I purchased both the Omron HJ-720ITC and the ACCUSPLIT Eagle AE1691M17 pedometers when my 20 year old Radio Shack unit finally quit. There is no comparison in the reliability of the units with regard to actually counting steps. It is difficult to stop the Omrom from accurately counting whereas the ACCUSPLIT is critically sensitive to orientation, placement on the body and being dislodged during activity.
The ACCUSPLIT has been returned and is being replaced by a second Omron unit.

Gaiam Pedometer Plus Audio CD (Intermediate Level)
Average Reviews:

i love gaiam products (was introduced through their pilates series) so this isnt a negative on the company. the pedometer just isn't what i thought it would be. it's really easy to reset your steps without meaning to due to the location of the reset button and the pedometer easily falls off my waistband while walking. i found it much easier to attach to my belt or put in the pocket of my pants and sometimes would attach it to the chest strap on my backpack (still got accurate reading). good product, i just wish they'd move the reset button or make it harder to reset the object.

The instruction manual for this item is unbelievable. I have a Ph.D. from MIT (no joke) and it took me 90 minutes to get through it. Even then, the sequence to change parameters takes lots of getting used to. (there are two interlocking loops of parameters.)
The bezel *is* soft and scratches easily.
The unforgivable? Today I did my first half marathon, and the chronograph function ran slow, then fast, then slow, then slow. It was totally useless. Pretty irritating performance for a big event.

This is the best pedometer that I have owned and yes I have had 4 of them...I reviewed many and am very happy with this purchase!!! It keeps accurate information for review for 7 days and does break down regular to moderate steps taken, miles and time...so if you walk, it keeps an accurate record...if you jog or speed walk, it keeps that accurate under moderate steps...It is not bulky, the clip holds tightly (even when you jog or speed walk) and it is very easy to read the numbers...What an easy set up also with the instuctions provided! I would highly recommend this one!! With my Amazon Prime membership, shipping was free and it came in 2 days!

ACCUSPLIT AE170 Pedometer with Steps, Distance, and Calories Burned Review

ACCUSPLIT AE170 Pedometer with Steps, Distance, and Calories Burned
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This pedometer is easy to set up and use. I tested its accuracy at the local highschool track by walking a 1/2 mile, and sure enough, my pedometer read 1/2 mile. The clip is sturdy, I haven't had any problem with the device falling off. The leash is a good extra - if it did fall off, it wouldn't hit the ground. My doctor gave me a goal of 10,000 steps per day, so I wear this all day long. It is light and I don't notice I am wearing it throughout the day.
The only downfall to this device (as is probably true with others)is that your stride is measured for walking, so when you are running or doing other cardio activity (elliptical) it doesn't accurately measure your distance. Since your stride is longer during a cardio activity (running), and the device is measuring your walking stride, the distance measurement falls short. However, the actual number of steps taken is still accurately measured. I suppose you could adjust the setting to a running stride when running to bridge this gap.

Bowflex Fit Trainer Plus Heart Rate Monitor and Pedometer Watch (Regular) Review

Bowflex Fit Trainer Plus Heart Rate Monitor and Pedometer Watch (Regular)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This was a pleasant surprise! I actually went to a local store to check out the Mio heart rate monitors, but found them disappointing. They either never gave a reading, or they gave readings that indicated my immediate hospitalization was required. (Maybe the frustration they caused had elevated my heart rate to 194, but I doubt it.) I was just about to settle for a monitor with a strap before the clerk brought out this gem.
The Bowflex, however, is very easy to use and had features I didn't expect to see on a monitor at this price:
1) While it has two sensors to touch for a reading, I have found that pressing the bottom sensor is actually enough, and easier, if you are on the move.
2) If you enter your age, gender and weight, it will calculate your minimum and maximum heart rate for you, or you can input them manually.
3) I didn't expect the pedometer at all! I haven't played with it much yet, but it seems simple enough to use. I don't know how accurate it is, being on the wrist instead of the hip. I'll update this later after I've tinkered with it a bit.
4) For a monitor watch without a chest strap, it is surprisingly accurate (I checked it against a blood pressure/heart rate monitor at home, and it stayed within +/- 4 BPM).
Technically it's unisex and it's not a dainty thing, but I have an average female frame and I don't find it uncomfortable or clunky. I ultimately purchased it from the local seller, because they were running a special better than the prices here on Amazon (it does happen). But even at around $70.00 it's a steal, compared to pricier brands that don't perform as well.
UPDATE:
Result of my preliminary test of the pedometer: It's awesome! Just walked home from a coffee shop and it accurately recorded the distance (0.5 miles). My number of steps, calories burned (I assume based upon my weight and gender), and average speed were all available at the touch of a button. I will retest it later in the week with my GPS to compare speed and distance.

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software Review

Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Omron Health Management Software
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I think this is an excellent pedometer -- it does the job well and accurately. It counts your steps whether it is clipped on, in your pocket or in a purse. The auto-reset to zero at midnight helps keep you honest. Like the software - a couple of clicks and your data is automatically uploaded. It shows your results on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Omron is the only company I have seen that provides you with software.
I think the manual that comes with the device could be slightly improved but here are some tips that may help you with setting it up and using it for the first time:
(1) With the back cover off, make note of the serial number. It is engraved into the case in tiny letters near the bottom. It is a six character mix of letters and numbers. You'll need this for registration later.
(2) Before starting to configure your pedometer, you will need to calculate the length of your stride. Pick a starting point and walk 10 regular steps. Measure the distance in inches and divide by 10. Make a note of the result to use later.

(3) In the software, I suggest setting modest "daily goals" to start. Adjust your goals up or down anytime through the software's Options menu as you get use to the pedometer.
(4) The "Set" button on the front is smaller than the others and is intended to be used occasionally to reset the time, your weight, etc. as needed - it does not reset or delete your step data. As a good practice, upload your pedometer data regularly as a backup. In the unlikely event that the "Set" button is accidently pressed , just press "Set" another 4 or 5 times and you'll come back to your normal "step" screen.
(5) Step count - this pedometer shows total steps (both aerobic and regular steps)in the "step" count screen. To see only the aerobic steps accomplished for the day, go to the next screen. It keeps a separate count for aerobic steps (60 steps or more per minute continuously for 10 minutes or longer).
(6) While you can view the last 7 days of step data on the device itself, it actually holds up to 42 days in memory. All data is viewable once uploaded to your pc.
Hope this helps... I highly recommend this device.

Omron Healthcare HJ-105 Digital Pedometer Review

Omron Healthcare HJ-105 Digital Pedometer

After using the Oregon Scientific pedometer with pulse meter (disaster - clip broke in 90 days, unit rendered useless) - I decided to go for a more utilitarian unit. Other than the batteries' demise, this unit has been quite usefull. The clip is stronger than my previous model; and testing with a 1 mile tracks shows the unit is off about 2.5%, which is not bad.
While a little sparse on features, it gives you what you basically need; # of steps; distance; # of calories expended. If you are looking for basic, good value, this could be your winner.

Bowflex Classic Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black) Review

Bowflex Classic Strapless Heart Rate Monitor Watch (Black)
Average Reviews:

I just bought this HRM Watch since I am starting to get back into shape and really hate ones with straps. I decided to ignore the one review this item had since I didn't feel it reflected the item itself but rather the anger of the reviewer.
It works great and isn't heavy. I like all of the features even though I only got it for reading my HR but feel I might eventually use some of the other features once I get a bit more in shape. It also looks like a regular watch so I can wear it anywhere.
It does the following:
- Anytime heart rate readings
- High and low target limits with alarm
- Time of day and calendar
- Dual time function (this means you can set it for another time zone as well as the one you are in)
- Night vision (backlight but I think if you hold the button down longer it will stay on)
- Daily alarm (I like this)
- Easy-to-read, large display
- Stopwatch and countdown timer
- Accurate ECG heart rate readings
- Water resistant
Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase!
